Bertie Mehigan

Bertie Mehigan is a partner in O’Melveny’s Singapore office and a member of the Firm’s Corporate Finance Practice.

Bertie’s practice focuses on cross-border financing, restructuring, and investment transactions, principally in Asia. He has represented creditors and debtors in financial transactions across Asia, including Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Korea, India, China, Pakistan, Cambodia, and Vietnam. His recent work has focused on debt restructuring and related transactions. Bertie also has extensive experience representing financial institutions and other investors in connection with syndicated loans, listed and unlisted FRNS, convertible bonds, exchangeable bonds, cross-border leasing of aircraft, sovereign financings, and sale and leaseback transactions.

Bertie’s experience also includes project financings. He has represented project sponsors in the financing of a synthetic rubber plant in Thailand, credit providers in the structuring and restructuring of a sale and leaseback by an Indonesian bank of its real estate portfolio, and investors in one of the first note instruments with attached share options issued by an Indonesian corporation and its shareholders.

Bertie is widely recognized for his leadership in the areas of banking and finance and restructuring. Chambers Asia (2008) awarded Bertie Band 1 recognition in its Singapore Banking & Finance and Restructuring/Insolvency sections. Similarly, the IFLR and The Legal 500 named Bertie as a recommended lawyer in their Insolvency and Restructuring and Banking categories.

Prior to joining O’Melveny, Bertie was a partner in the Singapore office of an international law firm, and prior to that, he was the managing partner of the Singapore office of a major law firm. He is admitted as an Irish Solicitor as well as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales, and has practiced in Dublin, London, and Bahrain as well as in Singapore.
