O'Melveny Named MALDEF National Sponsor
On September 20, 2007, the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund ("MALDEF") announced that O’Melveny is a national sponsor supporting MALDEF's important work on behalf of Latinos throughout the United States.
As a leading law firm sponsor, O'Melveny will also provide critical pro bono and other services to help MALDEF achieve its strategic mission of defending the civil liberties of Latinos throughout the US.
"This critical support expands MALDEF’s capacity to take on major impact litigation on behalf of the growing Latino population in Southern California and across the nation," said MALDEF President and General Counsel John Trasviña. "Whether it is assisting on matters before the US Supreme Court, bringing actions before our local courts, or shaping legislative solutions to the legal concerns of our community, this relationship extends MALDEF’s reach and adds depth to our services."
The sponsorship formalizes an already strong relationship between O'Melveny and MALDEF that dates back several years.
"We're very excited to develop our relationship further in order to help MALDEF advance its critical mission and also to further our own sustained commitment to pro bono and diversity," said partner Michael Camuñez (LA).
As a national law firm sponsor, O'Melveny will also participate in MALDEF’s Parent School Partnership and Youth Leadership Program as mentors, and will enable O’Melveny summer associates to support MALDEF’s work.
O'Melveny's Los Angeles office hosted a reception in September to recognize and celebrate the Firm's national sponsorship.
