Bertie Mehigan

Bertie Mehigan is a partner in O’Melveny’s Singapore office and a member of the Firm's Corporate Finance Practice.

Bertie’s practice focuses on cross-border financing, restructuring, and investment transactions in Asia. He has worked in Asia for 20 years and represents creditors, debtors, controllers, rescue financiers and others in many forms of financial and restructuring transactions across Asia. His recent work has focused on debt restructuring, special situation and similar transactions. Bertie also has extensive experience representing investors in syndicated loans, FRNS, convertible or exchangeable bonds, sovereign financings, and sale and leaseback transactions. Creditor clients include senior, mezzanine and junior loan or bondholder groups, white knight financiers and others. Debtor-side client include major Asian companies, family controllers and common and preferred shareholders.

Most recently, Bertie has been advising on various distressed situations and transactions, principally in China and Indonesia.  Clients include senior, mezzanine and junior international bondholder groups, white knight purchasers, debtors and common and preferred shareholders.  These transactions have typically involved a consideration of relevant insolvency regimes and pre-packaged restructuring plans.

Bertie is widely recognized for his leadership in the areas of banking and finance and restructuring. Chambers Asia (2011) awarded Bertie Bands 1 and 2 recognition in its Singapore Restructuring/Insolvency and Indonesia Banking and Finance sections. Similarly, IFLR 1000 and The Asia Pacific Legal 500 named Bertie as a recommended lawyer in their Insolvency and Restructuring and Banking categories.

Prior to joining O’Melveny, Bertie was a partner in the Singapore office of an international law firm, and prior to that, he was the managing partner of the Singapore office of a major law firm. He is admitted as an Irish Solicitor as well as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales, and has practiced in Dublin, London, and Bahrain as well as in Singapore.
