Path to Partnership
At O'Melveny, we understand career paths are as unique as our associates and counsel. Throughout the firm’s history, many O’Melveny alums have followed the call of public service and pursued client, government, and academic opportunities. For attorneys interested in partnership, we are committed to transparent communication during the partnership process. Each year, the Chair of the Partner Admissions Committee and O’Melveny’s in-house Career Development Advisor visit each office to discuss the path to partnership, including how partnership admission decisions are made at the office and practice-group level.
These "path to partnership" office-based discussions cover issues including:
- Partnership structure and criteria
- Nomination process
- Timeline for candidate submissions and the decision making process
- How the Firm supports new partners in their transition
Follow-up questions after the meetings are encouraged and any question—before or after—may be submitted anonymously. In addition to the local office meetings held annually, the path to partnership is a topic frequently featured on the agendas of our global training retreats.
Whether a junior partner or a more senior lateral, all new partners participate in a customized new partner retreat each year which covers partner business development, individual integration plans, Firm economics, and an in-depth look at our partnership agreement.
Your career is yours to define. O’Melveny’s values-driven culture supports our attorneys throughout their professional and personal lives.
