O'Melveny's Singapore Office Presents "What's Next For China?"

November 12, 2008

In celebration of the recent opening of O'Melveny's Singapore office and the establishment of the Firm's Pan-Asia Strategic Capital and Finance group, a number of key China practice leaders from the Firm's Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong offices will present "What's Next for China?" on November 12 at the Fullerton Hotel in Singapore. Partners Kurt Berney, Howard Chao, Mark Fairbairn, Qiang Li, Larry Sussman, Walker Wallace, Yi Zhang, and counsel Friven Yeoh will discuss the rapidly changing commercial and legal landscape in China.

Despite turmoil in global financial markets, China is still projected to enjoy at least 8% growth in 2008. International investors and business enterprises maintain an optimistic view of prospects in China, but global reverberations from a shaken Wall Street and Euro zone may impose a more cautious approach in the short term. Our program will consider the latest developments in the dynamic China market against the backdrop of recent global financial events, and provide an opportunity to discuss these developments with our panel of experienced China practitioners.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Private equity in China and the new global economic reality
  • The PRC regulatory framework: Are changes likely?
  • China’s changing real estate investment market
  • Trends in dispute resolution in China
  • China’s new bankruptcy law
