O'Melveny partner John Daum received runner-up "Litigator of the Week" honors from The AmLaw Litigation Daily Web site in its June 27 edition for his work on Exxon Mobil Corp.'s successful Supreme Court appeal of its punitive damages award in the Valdez Oil Spill.

Quoting the news Web site's item: "Daum led the briefing and argument in the Supreme Court for Exxon in its appeal of the punitive damages award in the Valdez oil spill case. On Wednesday, the justices offered new reasoning on punitive damages--and slashed Exxon's punies from $5 billion to about $500 million ($995 million with interest)."

Daum, a member of the Business Trial and Litigation Practice, joined the Firm in 1971. In addition to his work for ExxonMobil over many years, he has counseled clients in the entertainment, petroleum, real estate, insurance, and banking industries in major, global litigation matters.
