The American Lawyer O’Melveny Expands Leadership Ranks, Naming Another Vice Chair and Group Co-Chairs

O’Melveny announced a reorganization in its leadership positions, naming new co-leaders of its litigation and corporate departments, three new office managing partners, and creating a second vice chair role, this article reported.

Chair of the firm’s Trial Practice Dan Petrocelli, is now also the firm’s second vice chair, joining Mark Samuels.

Labor and Employment Practice co-chair Apalla Chopra has assumed the role of Litigation Department co-chair, while PDRE specialist Eric Richards will now co-head the Corporate Department.

“Our commitment to identifying important and challenging opportunities for our people to grow as leaders is one of the things that makes O’Melveny so special,” firm chair Bradley J. Butwin said in a statement. “We all benefit when more of our partners have the chance to take on management responsibilities. And we are blessed to have so many talented colleagues with leadership qualities ready to answer the call.”

The American Lawyer noted that former Litigation Department co-chair Randy Oppenheimer and former Corporate Department co-chair Warren Lazarow will join the firm’s Executive Committee.

Other changes included naming Madhu Pocha managing partner in Century City, California, Courtney Dyer managing partner in Washington, DC, and Nima Amini managing partner in Hong Kong.

“And the firm has announced four new practice leaders: Eric Amdursky is the new labor and employment co-chair; Michael Hamilton now leads the project development and real estate group; Pamela Miller is the co-chair for financial services; and Sabrina Strong is the co-chair for products liability and mass torts,” the publication wrote.

Additionally, the firm has named Molly Lens, Irwin Raij and Amy Siegel as the co-leaders of its Entertainment, Sports and Media Industry Group, which includes over 100 lawyers.

The publication also highlighted that with these changes, half of O’Melveny’s department heads are now lawyers of color and nearly three-quarters of US offices are headed by women, minorities, or those from the LGBTQ community.
