Associated Press: Walter Dellinger, Influential Scholar and Lawyer, Dies at 80

February 16, 2022

Constitutional scholar and former US Solicitor General Walter Dellinger has passed away at the age of 80. Dellinger, who also headed the Office of Legal Counsel under the Clinton Administration, argued a total of 24 cases before the US Supreme Court representing both the government and private clients. He helped lead a legal team in arguing election-related court cases for President Joe Biden and also defended President Biden’s pledge to nominate a Black woman to the US Supreme Court in a New York Times essay. “There are approximately 25,000 Black female attorneys in America. There is every reason to believe that President Biden’s nomination process will benefit by focusing on that extraordinary group for the next justice of the United States Supreme Court,” Dellinger wrote. This article was also published in The Washington Post, ABC News, US News and World Report, Westport News, and CT Insider.
