Bloomberg: Disney Sues Comic Book Artists Over Marvel Superhero Rights

The Walt Disney Company has filed a number of lawsuits against comic book artists claiming rights to characters the artists assisted in creating, including Spider-Man, Iron Man and Black Widow, Bloomberg reported. The suits seek to establish that Disney owns the rights to these Marvel superheroes. O’Melveny partner Dan Petrocelli filed the lawsuits on behalf of Disney’s Marvel unit in both New York and California and stated that the suits aim “to confirm that the termination notices are invalid and of no legal effect.”
