Pro bono work has become an increasingly crucial law firm operation. It provides opportunities for associates to gain valuable experience, allows lawyers to make significant impacts on the lives of others, and serves to boost firm reputations. It has also recently become a large recruiting tool as aspiring lawyers become progressively aware of the positive impacts they can have on society. O’Melveny pro bono counsel Jerri Shick said the firm communicates to potential recruits the large role pro bono plays in O’Melveny’s culture and that it is “not just talk.” She also noted that pro bono work is great for the firm’s morale saying that, “people who do pro bono are happier.”
