Law.com: Litigation Trendspotter: It’s Becoming Clear That Virtual Court Is Not Going Away

O’Melveny partner Dan Petrocelli spoke with Law.com about the long-term impact of COVID-19 on court proceedings. While many attorneys have their qualms with virtual litigation, it’s clear that some newfound upsides are bound for post-pandemic permanence.

“There’s a place for virtual mediations in particular,” said Petrocelli, head of O’Melveny’s trial practice. “You don’t even need to select a mediator in your city, so you can have a larger selection of people to work on your cases. You can avoid all the travel and expense of having to go someplace and be holed up in an office all day and night. We will also see more and more court proceedings handled virtually—status conferences, for example.”
