The American Lawyer: Law Firms Are Seeking Mental Health Solutions Together

Amid a persistently high number of lawyers with depression in Big Law, law firms are increasingly seeking mental health solutions together through industrywide cooperation. O’Melveny & Myers LLP arranged a mental well-being legal industry summit last month—with more than 20 law firms participating—meant to be a forum for best practice sharing and collaboration. The summit, which included firm leaders, senior partners, clients, and wellbeing experts, reinforced the need to reduce the stigma of seeking help within firms. George Demos, O’Melveny’s chief operating officer, has been working to eliminate the barriers, both real and imagined, that stop people from getting the assistance they need. He said he wants firms to do a better job of communicating which offerings are available as well as making them easier to access.
