International Trade Today: Trade Lawyers Say OFAC Sanctions Enforcements Becoming More Frequent, Aggressive
March 11, 2019
Partner Greta Lichtenbaum is one of many lawyers who have noticed increased enforcement by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) in the past few months.
Lichtenbaum noted that OFAC’s recent enforcement notices serve as a “lesson-learned exercise,” meaning the agency is warning other US companies not to commit the same mistakes.
She also noticed OFAC’s increased action against foreign firms that are violating sanctions. “They really want to send a very strong message to our trading partners that we are going to go after non-U.S. firms,” Lichtenbaum said.
