FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LOS ANGELES and NEW YORK—November 26, 2018—O’Melveny partners Irwin P. Raij, John J. Rapisardi, Eric A.S. Richards, and Robert Siegel have been named 2018 “MVPs of the Year” by Law360 in the practice areas of Sports, Bankruptcy, Project Finance, and Transportation, respectively.

The list recognizes an “elite slate of attorneys” who “distinguished themselves from their peers by securing hard-earned successes in high-stakes litigation, complex global matters and record-breaking deals,” setting them apart from the more than 1,000 submissions the publication received.

As O’Melveny’s Sports Industry Group co-chair, Raij has extensive experience advising clients on a wide range of sports business issues, including M&A, stadium development, and media rights, on both the professional and the collegiate levels. His clients include owners and acquirers of professional sports teams, leagues, universities, and local and state governments. Raij recently represented David Tepper, founder and president of global hedge fund Appaloosa Management, in his acquisition of the NFL’s Carolina Panthers, the largest transaction for an NFL team to date, as well as LaLiga, the Spanish soccer league, in its joint venture with Relevent Sports to commercialize its media, sponsorship, and licensing rights in North America.

Rapisardi is chair of the firm’s Global Restructuring Practice, with 35 years of domestic and international debtor and creditor restructuring experience across a variety of industries. He is currently leading O’Melveny’s ongoing representation of the Government of Puerto Rico with respect to all aspects of the financial restructuring of Puerto Rico’s debt obligations.

Co-chair of the Project Finance & Development Group, Richards advises sponsors, developers, investors, financial institutions, and others in investment-related transactions involving infrastructure assets across a wide range of sectors. He represented LaGuardia Gateway Partners (LGP) in its winning bid for the complete redevelopment and long-term operation of the Central Terminal Building (CTB) at New York LaGuardia Airport, a landmark deal expected to be the largest public-private partnership to be undertaken anywhere in the world.

Siegel, co-chair of O’Melveny’s Aviation Industry Group, is a labor lawyer who focuses his practice on representing major companies in federal court litigation under the Railway Labor Act and the National Labor Relations Act, arbitrations, labor negotiations, National Mediation Board and National Labor Relations Board matters, and employment law litigation and counseling. His recent accomplishments include numerous high-profile wins for American Airlines, Atlas and Southern Air, and Alaska Airlines. Siegel is former chair of O’Melveny’s Litigation Department and vice-chair of the firm.
