Rick Ross

Rick Ross currently serves as Of Counsel in O’Melveny's Century City office. Rick joined O’Melveny in 1973 and was a partner in the Entertainment, Sports and Media Practice from 1981 through 2004. His practice includes significant work in almost all areas of the entertainment practice, representing both major studio and independent production companies, distribution and telecommunication companies, television networks, and other broadcast entities, cable companies, pay television services, Internet and other new media companies, and institutional clients, as well as individual creative and performing artists and entertainment industry executives.
Rick has extensive experience in the areas of television and theatrical motion picture financing, production and distribution, merchandising and licensing, and transactions involving the development, licensing, sale, acquisition, protection, and management of intellectual property and technology assets. He has also done substantial work in the publishing and music industries, representing clients in connection with publishing and recording agreements, concert and other personal appearances, and concert promotion activities.
Rick's work in licensing and merchandising involves the representation of clients in connection with the development and launching of, and licensing and protection programs for, major character-licensing properties. In addition, he represents celebrity clients in connection with their licensing, merchandising, and commercial spokesperson activities, and has represented the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in connection with licensing, television and home video program production, other entertainment-related matters and major international exhibitions at the Museum.
Rick's practice has involved substantial work in connection with the formation of television and theatrical motion picture production and distribution partnerships and joint ventures, Internet ventures, and ventures for the establishment and delivery of satellite-delivered programming in the United States and other territories throughout the world. Rick has also been actively involved in the Firm's representation of clients in connection with entertainment-related mergers, acquisitions, and offerings, as well as the trademark, copyright, and other intellectual property aspects of such transactions which are not entertainment-related.
