Jessica Brent is an experienced litigator based in O’Melveny’s Century City office. She focuses her practice on complex civil disputes in the entertainment, media, technology, and communications industries. Jessica has significant experience in and out of the courtroom. She has successfully authored and argued dispositive motions, prepared key witnesses for deposition and trial, and negotiated favorable settlements for clients at mediations and settlement conferences.

Jessica also maintains an active pro bono practice. She provides advice to individuals seeking to immigrate to the United States, and has previously represented asylum seekers in the Federal Court of Australia. Jessica was also part of a team that recently partnered with the ACLU Reproductive Freedom Project and local Planned Parenthood affiliates to challenge Kentucky’s total abortion ban.

  • Successfully defended major motion picture company in a breach of contract, fraud, and misrepresentation action brought by a writer/producer.
  • Achieved a major victory for Belkin International, Ltd. in a contract dispute over wireless charging technology.
  • Represented major motion picture company in various breach of contract and profit participation disputes.
  • Represented investors in litigation concerning construction defect claims.
  • Defended Penguin Random House in the DOJ’s high-profile challenge of its proposed US$2.175 billion acquisition of Simon & Schuster—one of the few merger cases to be enjoined on a monopsony theory of liability.
