Susan Munro
Counsel
Susan Munro is a counsel in O'Melveny's Shanghai office and a member of the Litigation Department. She completed her university education in England and qualified as a barrister at the Inns of Court School of Law, London. She is a member of the Middle Temple and was called to the Bar of England and Wales and to the Hong Kong Bar in 1997. Susan is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
Prior to joining O'Melveny, Susan undertook a wide variety of litigation, arbitration and advisory work as a barrister in Hong Kong. She has represented Hong Kong, PRC and international clients in Commercial, Company, Employment, Insolvency, Construction, Insurance, Shipping and Landlord and Tenant cases.
Susan's work with O'Melveny has included both litigation and transactional work. In her transactional practice Susan has represented US clients in connection with a number of global and Chinese acquisitions, including advising a major US listed insurance group in relation to the acquisition of a Chinese insurance group. She has also advised a major US investment fund in relation to the Asia component of a series of global M&A transactions and regularly advises on foreign direct investment in China, including investments involving the transfer of complex intellectual property to China. In her litigation practice, Susan has acted for the receivers of an overseas company with real estate assets in China during a protracted receivership. She regularly advises clients on disputes before various arbitral institutions including the China International Economic Trade and Arbitration Commission, ICC, HKIAC and LCIA. Susan has advised several China-related investment funds in connection with shareholder disputes requiring arbitration and litigation in multiple jurisdictions, principally China, the BWI, Hong Kong and England & Wales. In addition, she regularly acts for clients in connection with fraud, regulatory compliance, corporate governance and insolvency matters in China and advises on compliance and conducts investigations in relation to United States Foreign Corrupt Practices Act matters.
