The Carlyle Group

O’Melveny represented Carlyle in environmental diligence and documentation related to its acquisition, along with other investors, of a majority stake in Luxembourg-based metals trader, the Traxys Group. The investment represents the latest move by Carlyle to elevate its presence in commodities as big banks, such as JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley, and Deutsche Bank, reduce their exposure due to increased government scrutiny and lower demand. Along with Carlyle, affiliates of famed investor Louis Bacon, founder of Moore Capital Management, and Traxys management will purchase the stake for an undisclosed sum from private equity firm Pegasus Capital Advisors, Kelso & Co, and Resource Capital Funds.
