West Villages Improvement District

O’Melveny represented West Villages Improvement District (WVID) in the development of an estimated US$100 million spring training facility for the Atlanta Braves in Sarasota, Florida. The WVID is a limited, single, and specialized purpose Local Government that was created to assure timely, cost-effective, and high-quality design and implementation of infrastructure for the District located in Sarasota County. We acted as the point guard for the deal by negotiating with a number of players to close this deal, including several government entities—the district, county, city, and state—developers, the team, and league. Under the terms of the agreement, which closed in December 2017, WVID will be ultimately responsible for the design and construction of the training facility, which broke ground in December 2017 and is expected to be open to the public 2019.
