SETH ARONSON (CLASS OF 1981) retired from O’Melveny after 35 years with the firm. He has joined Phillips ADR as a mediator, arbitrator, and independent panelist. A top securities litigator and firm leader with the wit and timing of a stand-up comedian, Seth has been an integral part of O’Melveny since he joined the firm in 1988. Seth was the inaugural Managing Partner of our Los Angeles office, holding that role from 2000 to 2008, and, as leader of our Securities Litigation practice from 2002 to 2011, he helped create and grow that group. The practice today has more than a dozen partners in five offices, and its expansion and success are testaments to his skillful leadership and development of younger lawyers. Aptly described in his Chambers profile as “phenomenal,” Seth has cultivated a deep and vast knowledge of securities litigation. Corporations and their directors, officers, and professionals have relied on him to mount forceful defenses in securities class actions, shareholder derivative actions, SEC enforcement proceedings, and mergers and acquisitions litigation. His keen ability to assess the risks and benefits of various possible outcomes has helped him build a roster of loyal clients, including Skechers, Lockheed Martin, PowerWave, and Montage Technology Group. Seth shared his decades of expertise by co-authoring the definitive treatise Shareholder Derivative Actions: From Cradle to Grave. Seth has long embodied O’Melveny’s commitment to community service and pro bono work. In 2021, for providing legal services to those living in poverty, he was honored by the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles with its Maynard Toll Award for Distinguished Public Service—a distinction named after the esteemed former O’Melveny Chair and pioneering civic leader.
