The American Lawyer: As They Navigate the Pandemic, Midlevel Associates Say Law Firm Transparency Is Paramount

August 24, 2020

O’Melveny is ranked #1 in The American Lawyer’s 2020 Midlevel Associates Survey of more than 70 law firms nationwide. The annual survey measures: third-, fourth-, and fifth-year associate job satisfaction, including work opportunities, compensation and benefits, training and guidance, and interaction with partners and other associates.

The American Lawyer noted that this year’s rankings reflect which firms have in a moment of tremendous uncertainty “done the best to deliver on the high-quality work, comfortable culture and other factors needed to keep associates happy.”

The publication highlighted the importance of transparency amid the pandemic, which was among the areas in which O’Melveny scored highly.

“Throughout all of this, we’ve held town halls on everything from strategic priorities to firm finances, and we don’t have any secrets from associates,” said Brad Butwin, O’Melveny’s Chair. “Our associates want to do good and meaningful work, and they want to be supported. We don’t regard them as employees; we view each of them as partners, colleagues and stakeholders.”
