American Lawyer: J&J (and O’Melveny) Roll the Dice as Oklahoma Opioid Trial Begins

May 28, 2019

O’Melveny and local co-counsel Foliart Huff Ottaway & Bottom are representing Johnson & Johnson and its subsidiary Janssen Pharmaceuticals against lawyers for the State of Oklahoma. In the first big opioid case to go to trial, the court will determine whether opioid makers can be held liable under public nuisance laws.

As recently as May 26th, the other pharmaceutical companies named in the suit agreed to settle the allegations, leaving J&J as the only company going to trial.

O’Melveny’s legal team includes partners Sabrina Strong, Stephen Brody, and Charles Lifland as well as counsel David Roberts and Jen Cardelús. Strong, who co-chairs the firm’s class action practice, is “slated to play a lead role at trial.”
