Associated Press: California Eyes Risk Pool as it Struggles with Costly Fires

The destructive California wildfires of 2017 and 2018 have made it difficult for many in fire-prone areas to get or afford insurance, prompting calls for a catastrophe fund worth between $15 and $30 billion. Governor Gavin Newsom is set to announce by mid-April proposals to mitigate liability for the state’s most vulnerable, which he developed with counsel from O’Melveny.
