Aviation Week Quotes O’Melveny’s Siegel on Virgin America Union Endorsement Vote

July 04, 2014 O’Melveny & Myers partner Robert Siegel is quoted in a July 4, 2014, Aviation Week article, titled “Virgin America Flight Attendants Set For Second Union Vote.”  The report discusses Virgin America’s upcoming election that will determine whether the Airline will join the Transport Workers Union (TWU).  Virgin America flight attendants rejected the TWU during another election two years ago and the airline is seeking to convince its 862 flight attendants to vote against joining once again.  Even if Virgin America’s employees do endorse a union, things may not change immediately, Siegel told the publication.  “It takes a long time to bargain a first contract… I think that’s what some of the companies are concerned about – that you end up in this legal process that takes a long time, and they think there are more effective ways through a less formal process to work things out.”

As the article reports, Siegel represents major airlines in employment matters but does not have a relationship with Virgin America.  He is a member of O’Melveny’s Labor and Employment Practice and resides in the Firm’s Los Angeles office.
