O’Melveny Sports Industry group co-chair Charles Baker and counsel Eric Geffner represented a majority woman-founded investor group comprised of a number of celebrities and prominent athletes, in securing expansion rights that will bring a National Women’s Soccer League team to Los Angeles, this article reported. Sports industry deals have decelerated amid the coronavirus pandemic but retaining fan interest remains a high priority, Bloomberg Law noted. “Covid has been impactful but most owners see this as temporary, and believe in the underlying value of their assets,” said Baker. “Revenue is still coming in because media deals are still being paid. Buyers are interested in teams or pieces of teams, but it’s a slow market because of future uncertainty.”
