Cheng Discusses Early Enforcement of China’s Cybersecurity Law with Bloomberg BNA

August 11, 2017

O’Melveny partner Ronald Cheng spoke with Bloomberg BNA for the August 11, 2017, article, “China Begins Using New Cybersecurity Law Enforcement Powers.”

According to the report, the law was first enforced against Chongqing City Home Technology Development Company for “allegedly failing to store user login information.” Cheng told the publication that the leniency showed to the Chongqing firm, which was given 15 days to comply with the law, “may suggest that the authorities are still weighing how vigorously to enforce the law.”

Cheng handles both anti-corruption and data security and privacy matters, and is co-located in O’Melveny’s Hong Kong and Los Angeles offices. He is one of very few Mandarin-speaking attorneys with experience in both US and Chinese criminal law enforcement.
