CIO Dive: As Federal Policy Lags, State Legislative Pipeline Is More Important for CIOs

With the midterm elections approaching, “paying attention to state leadership and policy is more important than ever” for CIOs. In an interview with CIO Dive, O’Melveny special counsel Scott Pink discusses the future of state legislation on digital and data privacy issues. 

According to Pink, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, and Illinois are some of the bigger states to watch with pending privacy legislation. These laws might not be passed until the end of the year or even 2019, he said.

Pink asserts that states are incentivized to strengthen privacy protections because of the recent enactment of GDPR, high-profile security breaches, and data being used without consumer consent.
