Daily Journal Includes Three O’Melveny Deals in Top Entertainment Transactions of 2015

January 04, 2016

The January 4, 2016, edition of the Daily Journal “compiled a list of some of the largest and talked to dealmakers involved about what these transactions signify for the industry.” The article features the Hunan TV & Broadcast Intermediary financing deal with Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. and quotes O’Melveny & Myers partner Bruce Tobey saying, “closing transactions like this reinforces and establishes credibility on both sides of the globe that these things can get done. People can enter a complication negotiation and find common ground.”

It also highlights Village Roadshow Ltd.’s recapitalization—O'Melveny partner David J. Johnson Jr. represented Highbridge Capital in the transaction. “It is a wildly complicated structure,” Johnson said in the article, adding that working closely with partner Matthew Erramouspe helped him navigate the challenges. “At a high level, what's exciting about being involved in these deals is the continuing innovation in how these deals get done.”

Bona Film Group Limited investment in 20th Century Fox Film Corp. is also noted and the article quotes partner Stephen Scharf, who represented Bona, about counsel Jing Cao’s China experience.

Tobey and Scharf are co-chairs of the Entertainment and Media Practice and Johnson is a partner specializing in Capital Markets.
