Law360: Disney Beats Latest ’Zootopia’ Copyright Case

A US judge in California has dismissed a copyright lawsuit over the Disney film “Zootopia,” finding the suit was pursuing “a monopoly over all animated films involving crime-fighting, talking animals.”

“The concept of anthropomorphic animals — even anthropomorphic animals who fight crime — is a high-level, basic plot idea not subject to copyright protection,” US District Court Judge Andrew Guilford noted.

O’Melveny’s Dan Petrocelli, Anton Metlitsky, Drew Breuder, and Craig Bloom represented Disney.
