Plastics Today: Bag Ban in New York, Flawed Legislation in Maine Create New Challenges for Plastics Industry

O’Melveny partner Hannah Chanoine is quoted in this Plastics Today article, which discusses New York’s statewide ban on single-use plastic bags. The ban took effect March 1. “Using a ban to incentivize public behavior is tricky business,” said Chanoine. “In addition to cutting down on plastic pollution — a laudable goal — the law is intended to encourage widespread use of reusable bags. But, of course, single-use bags are also the method many urban residents with smaller apartments use to collect and dispose of their household garbage.”
