The Desert Sun: Indio Settles Class Action Lawsuit, will Pay Back Residents the ‘Prosecution Fees’ it Charged them

Indio, CA, has agreed to settle a class action lawsuit alleging the city violated residents’ due process when it hired an outside law firm to prosecute individuals for municipal code violations, and then charged them for the firm’s legal fees.

Lawyers from the Institute for Justice and O’Melveny & Myers filed the suit on behalf of resident Ramona Rita Morales, who had been charged over US$6,000 regarding a dispute about chickens she kept in her backyard.
