Law360: MVP - O’Melveny’s Robert Siegel

October 15, 2020

Bob Siegel, co-chair of O’Melveny’s Aviation Industry Group, has been named a “Transportation MVP” by Law360 for the third consecutive year.

Siegel told the publication he had a “number of good decisions” recently for several airlines and considered them “all very important.” He discussed two achievements that he found particularly rewarding given their “intellectually interesting” issues and significant impact for the airline industry: preventing a US$100 million arbitration award from being thrown out for United Airlines, and ensuring that an arbitration dispute involving a new contract for pilots could proceed for Atlas Air.

Siegel’s work still keeps him motivated and having fun after decades in the transportation field, Law360 reported. “Airlines are interesting companies. They’ve gone through a lot, and there’s never a dull moment. Of course, right now, the industry is facing one of its great challenges,” Siegel said, referring to the significant travel decline caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. “That requires the same kind of creative lawyering done back in some prior times as well.”
