Law360: Marvel Battles To Keep ‘Avengers’ Characters’ Copyrights

Disney’s Marvel Characters, Inc. has “launched an all-out counterattack” over copyrights against comic book artists who helped create a number of their superhero characters including Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Black Widow. Lawsuits were filed in both California and New York federal courts. O’Melveny partner Daniel Petrocelli represents Marvel and said in a statement that “since these were works made for hire and thus owned by Marvel, we filed these lawsuits to confirm that the termination notices are invalid and of no legal effect.”
