Law360: ‘Not A Flash In The Pan’: BigLaw Racial Justice Aid Continues

May 25, 2021

A year after the murder of George Floyd, BigLaw’s commitment to racial justice appears here to stay, this article reported. O’Melveny and a number of its peers donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to racial justice initiatives in 2020 and have continued funding related programs in 2021.

Last year, O’Melveny created an internal Racial Justice Committee to promote “a more just society and diverse profession,” Law360 noted. The firm subsequently donated $25,000 to The Advancement Project, Color of Change, and The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, respectively, and firm chair Brad Butwin co-founded the Law Firm Antiracism Alliance, “a group of nearly 300 law firms that has banded together to identify and dismantle systemic racism in laws, policies and practices in areas like education, public policy and homelessness.”
