Law360: O'Melveny Launches State Regulatory Defense Group

October 23, 2019

O’Melveny’s new State Attorneys General Litigation and Defense practice was the subject of this Law360 article. The new practice group is led by partners Steve Brody, Ross Galin, and Daniel Suvor. State Attorneys General have become increasingly more active, the article noted, taking companies to court to enforce state and federal regulations related to the environment, financial services, food, and pharmaceuticals.

Survor, a former senior counsel and policy chief for former California Attorney General Kamala Harris, told Law360 that the nationwide practice group has been several years in the making, highlighting the nationwide opioid multidistrict litigation as an example of aggressive regulatory action. O’Melveny has recently been involved in multistate litigation against Johnson & Johnson that involved 41 Attorneys General. “Their work crosses industries. It’s everywhere from health care to life sciences to technology in the antitrust space to the financial sector,” Survor said. “Our clients are often reaching out to us asking for assistance with State Attorneys General, and this formalization of this work really ensures that we’re prioritizing state investigations for our clients.”
