Law360 Recognizes O’Melveny as the One Firm to Hit Nearly US$4 Billion in Hotel M&A

October 11, 2016

Law360’s October 11, 2016, article highlights O’Melveny as handling US$3.88 billion in hotel mergers and acquisitions (M&A) through the first three quarters of 2016, topping its next-closest competitor by US$400 million, according to data from Dealogic.

The article highlights O’Melveny’s work for Apollo Global Management LLC on its acquisition of Diamond Resorts International Inc. and for SBE Entertainment Group LLC in connection with its US$794 million all-cash purchase of Morgans Hotel Group Co.

“The forces that are driving [hospitality M&A] ... play into the negotiation strategy in every deal,” said Paul Scrivano, head of O’Melveny's global M&A and private equity practice. “And you need a good real estate group to assist.”

O’Melveny partner Eric B. Rothenberg and counsel John D. Renneisen worked on the Apollo matter. Scrivano worked on the SBE deal with partner Mark Easton and associates Noah Kornblith and Martha Todd. Rothenberg leads the Firm’s Environmental Practice, and Renneisen provides legal advice on environmental issues in the context of M&A, debt and equity financing, and compliance counseling. Easton is the Regional Head of Transactions for Southern California, and Kornblith and Todd advise clients across a broad range of M&A transactions.
