MassLive: Massachusetts Court Considers Whether to Legalize Physician-assisted SuicideMarch 26, 2019
Partner John Kappos is representing Roger Kligler, a man with Stage 4 cancer, and his doctor Alan Steinbach, who are suing the Massachusetts Attorney General. They argue that the “criminal prosecution of a doctor for prescribing a lethal dose of medication to a competent, terminally ill patient is illegal under the state constitution,” according to MassLive.
“There is a fundamental right to patients determining their own health care,” Kappos said during oral arguments. He said that Kligler “wants to ensure that when he reaches the end of his life he has the option to die a peaceful death in a humane way should his suffering become unbearable.”
