The Wall Street Journal Pro AI: NEC Sees Room for Growth in Business Use of Facial Recognition

September 18, 2019

Partner Steve Bunnell was quoted in this article, which discusses Japan-based NEC Corporations’ recent strategy to expand sales of its facial recognition technology.

Bunnell, who co-chairs the firm’s Data Security and Privacy Practice, spoke about the rise of facial recognition technology, which he said is partly due to advances in machine learning.

“The quality of the algorithms, the availability of data and the storage capacity that you have on cloud computing centers…you put all that together and it’s creating an environment where this stuff can actually get good enough and pervasive enough to start really affecting people’s lives,” Bunnell said.
