The Recorder: O’Melveny & Myers Seeks to Overturn Beverly Hills’ Scooter Ban

November 08, 2018

O’Melveny lawyers representing Bird, the Los Angeles-based scooter company, filed a lawsuit against the City of Beverly Hills for barring the use of the motorized scooters within the city’s boundaries. Since the Southern California city enacted the ban, it has impounded over 1,000 of Bird’s scooters. “Bird brings this action to halt [the police department's] routine violation of Bird’s due-process and property rights,” the complaint says, signed by partner Margaret Carter. “The city’s ordinance is invalid, and every seizure and impound made under its authority is unlawful.” The O’Melveny team also included O’Melveny’s white-collar practice chair Steven Olson, counsel Dimitri Portnai, and associate Jason Orr.
