O’Melveny Lawyers Address Failings of US Bail System in Daily Journal Article

August 02, 2017

O'Melveny partner Margaret Carter and counsel Daniel Suvor co-authored the article, “A Smarter Bail System,” published in the August 2, 2017, edition of the Daily Journal

“Across the United States, millions of people have been incarcerated while awaiting a court date simply because they cannot come up with the cash for their release,” the authors write.

The article discusses the shortcomings of the United States’ bail system, as well as the solution offered by the recently introduced Pretrial Integrity and Safety Act of 2017, which the authors say represents “an important step toward reform.”

Carter, who resides in O’Melveny’s Los Angeles office, is a skilled trial attorney and former federal prosecutor who specializes in high-stakes civil and white collar criminal trials, complex litigation, and regulatory matters. Also based in Los Angeles, Suvor brings extensive experience working with attorneys general to his practice, which focuses on products liability, healthcare, financial services, and white collar and investigation matters.
