O’Melveny Lawyers Quoted in Asian Legal Business on China’s Private Equity Market

February 21, 2012

O’Melveny & Myers LLP partner Dean Collins and counsel Xuan Zhang are quoted in the February 21, 2012, issue of Asian Legal Business regarding China’s private equity market. According to Collins, a down cycle in the market presents opportunities. “Sometimes a less than buoyant IPO market can be a good thing for private equity fundraising as deal pricing is better to deploy capital into companies on terms that fund investors perceive as attractive,” said Collins. Zhang discusses the reason behind why many funds rely on international law firms for counsel. According to Zhang, “although Chinese law firms have become more familiar with commercial terms of PE funds now than a few years back, they generally lack the necessary tax, ERISA and regulatory expertise.  They also lack the experience in dealing with sophisticated international institutional investors." The also article notes that O’Melveny closed at least five China funds towards the end of 2011.
