June 28, 2012

The July 2012 issue of The American Lawyer ranks O’Melveny & Myers as No. 7 on its annual A-List, a prestigious classification of Am Law 200 law firms that “represent the all-around best.” This marks O’Melveny’s highest ranking since the list was inaugurated. “O'Melveny & Myers posted the biggest increase of any firm on the list, surging 104 points, to seventh place,” according to the article. The article mentions that associate satisfaction was a major factor in the Firm’s jump. “We improved communications and openness about the firm's financial performance and partnership chances, including holding town halls and having individual conversations,” said O’Melveny Chair Bradley J. Butwin.

The article also mentions O’Melveny’s commitment to pro bono work and diversity and inclusion, as well as the Firm’s most profitable year in its history, as important components of the ranking. “The A-list represents well rounded-ness,” Butwin said. “Diversity matters to clients. It matters to judges. It matters to juries. How we develop associates matters, and pro bono matters deeply.”
