O’Melveny Profiled as a Competition Firm of the Year by Law360

January 29, 2014 O’Melveny & Myers’ Antitrust Practice recently was selected by Law360 as a Competition Group of the Year.  In a January 28, 2014, profile, the publication spotlighted the practice’s major victories for clients US Airways, Honeywell, and Samsung Electronics in 2013.

For US Airways Group Inc., O’Melveny negotiated a settlement with the federal government on the eve of trial that allowed the airline to complete its US$17 billion merger with American Airlines Inc.  Antitrust and Competition Practice chair Richard Parker discussed the Firm’s successful track record in defending companies pursuing major mergers against suits by the government.  "That requires putting together a big team of people who know what they're doing and can do it quickly, and that's what we were able to do in this case," he told the publication.

Other achievements highlighted in the piece include an agreement with the government clearing the way for Honeywell International Inc. to complete its US$600 million acquisition of data management company Intermec Inc. and the dismissal of a multidistrict litigation against Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. in an effort led by Washington, DC partners Ian Simmons and Ben Bradshaw.

“The Firm is skilled at both doing regulatory work with the government in antitrust disputes and bringing cases by the government to court when necessary,” said Parker, who resides in the Firm’s Washington, DC office.  “We have teams of people who can do both, which gives us a competitive advantage and provides good results for clients.”
