April 17, 2013

O’Melveny & Myers LLP is in the running for multiple honors at Euromoney Legal Media Group’s 2013 Americas Women in Business Law Awards. From among more than 200 submissions, O’Melveny has garnered nominations for eight awards, including an individual award for partner Elizabeth McKeen. Euromoney Legal Media Group announced the nominees for this year's awards in Managing Intellectual Property earlier this month.

The Americas Women in Business Law Awards acknowledge law firms and professional services firms for their efforts and achievements in helping women advance in the legal profession. They comprise both individual practice area awards, which recognize outstanding women lawyers in several practice areas, and law firm awards, which celebrate the best initiatives for gender diversity, innovation, minority women, mentoring, work-life balance, pro bono work and talent management, as well as best in country/region.

In addition to returning as a finalist in the “Best Gender Diversity Initiative by International Firm” category, O’Melveny also is a contender for “Best International Firm for Diversity,” “Best International Mentoring Program,” “Best International Firm for Work-Life Balance,” “Most Innovative International Firm,” “Best International Firm for Women in Business Law,” and the best firm overall in the US West. In the individual awards category, McKeen is nominated as a "Rising Star" in Litigation. Programs and initiatives that led to O’Melveny’s strong showing on Euromoney’s awards shortlist include the Firm’s latest diversity efforts offered through its Women’s Initiative and Women’s Affinity Groups as well as the Firm’s newest workplace flexibility initiative, CustOMMize, and its varied talent development and mentoring programs.

The winners will be announced at the Americas Women in Business Law Awards ceremony on June 5, 2013, in New York City.

To determine the nominees, Euromoney Legal Media Group invites law firms to submit information on the number of female lawyers within the firm, details of their tangible, women-friendly working practices and policies, and biographical information about leading female lawyers at the firm. The winning individuals and firms are selected by senior Euromoney Legal Media Group editorial staff following an extensive interview and research process. Individual winners are judged on their professional accomplishments as well as advocacy and influence within their field over the last 12 months. Firm and country/regional winners are judged on their ability to support the development of women in the legal profession through a variety of approaches, including work/life programs. Criteria include the ratio of female-to-male lawyers (at all levels of seniority), the retention of women associates to partner level, and any relevant diversity initiatives.

Part of Euromoney Institutional Investor PLC, Euromoney Legal Media Group comprises a wide range of legal publications including Managing Intellectual Property, International Financial Law Review, IFLR1000, International Tax Review, Expert Guides and Benchmark Litigation.

O’Melveny also recently received Yale Law Women’s “Recognition of Superior Performance in Overall Support of Part-Time/Flex-Time Use” as part of its annual Top Ten Family Friendly Firms survey. In addition to its overall list, Yale Law Women recognizes firms that have demonstrated superior performance in specific categories that Yale Law School alumni have identified as particularly important for evaluating family friendliness.
