O’Melveny’s Bunzel, Chopra, and Smith Named Top Women Lawyers by Daily Journal

May 09, 2012

O’Melveny & Myers Sharon Bunzel, Apalla Chopra, and Linda Smith were named Top Women Lawyers by the Daily Journal in its May 9, 2012, special section.

Bunzel was chosen for the award for her defense of victims in criminal cases, including her work for the San Francisco Giants. In United States v. O'Connor, she lobbied a federal judge to sentence a former Giants employee to 21 months in prison for embezzling US$2.2 million.

Chopra was recognized for her role as O’Melveny’s Labor and Employment Practice chair and detailed the group’s work along all lines of labor and employment law, emphasizing an uptick in clients looking for appellate experience. "Unlike many practitioners in the labor and employment space that focus on one area, I work really hard to be an expert in all of the areas," Chopra said in the article.

Smith’s work with Advanced Micro Devices Inc. v Intel Corp. and Hollywood Foreign Press Association v. Red Zone Capital Partners II L.P. earned her a spot on this year’s list. The AMD antitrust case involved five hundred million pages of documents, according to the article. "We were representing the plaintiff, which [was] an unusual experience for O'Melveny & Myers and for me," Smith said in the article. "It was the most challenging, exciting case."
