Burton Quoted in Law360 on High-Demand Associates

September 01, 2016

O’Melveny’s firmwide hiring partner Allen Burton is quoted in the Law360 article “The Path of the Essential Associate” published August 31, 2016. The piece discusses how associates can stand out in a competitive hiring market and ultimately make themselves indispensable to both their firm and their clients.

“The ability to research and litigate often go hand in hand. High-demand associates have the desire and ability to do both of those. Through a combination of training and mentoring, we can put people in a position to succeed in that type of opportunity,” Burton told the publication.

O’Melveny connects every new associate to a mentor, encourages lunches with partners, and offers more formal training programs across all practice groups, he said.

“Each associate has a work advisor who coordinates the work assigned to them,” Burton said. “We use that as a way to organize the workflow and provide opportunities for associates to explore areas of interest to them while balancing the needs of clients.”

As hiring partner, Burton is responsible for overseeing recruiting efforts across O’Melveny’s 15 offices. As a securities litigation partner, his practice focuses on complex commercial litigation, including financial services litigation, securities litigation, insurance and reinsurance disputes, regulatory investigations, and mass tort defense.
