O’Melveny’s Collins Discusses Risk Mitigation in PE Asia

May 09, 2012

Private Equity Asia’s May 8, 2012, article, “ADB Pushes for More Risk Mitigation,” talked about a recent seminar held by the Asian Development Bank that called for more checks and balances in Asia against global financial crises. The article quotes O’Melveny partner Dean Collins about the potential impact new financial regulations, which he expects later this year, could have on bank-sponsored funds. "That's very serious because private equity traditionally in more developed markets has gotten away without really any regulatory capital. In the UK you only had to have £5000 and you could be managing billions of pounds of capital with only £5000 of regulatory capital,” Collins said in the article.
