O’Melveny’s Dellinger Signs Constitutional Law Professors’ Statement Regarding Second Amendment and Gun Legislation

January 31, 2013

O’Melveny & Myers LLP partner and former acting US Solicitor General Walter Dellinger was among the more than 50 constitutional law professors who recently signed a statement drafted by UCLA law professor Adam Winkler and University of Chicago law professor Geoffrey Stone that refutes claims that the Second Amendment precludes Congress from enacting legislation to reduce gun violence in the United States. The statement was submitted to Congress on January 30, 2013, in anticipation of the beginning of hearings on the proposed legislation. Stone posted the full statement to The Huffington Post Politics Blog in a January 30 post titled "The Second Amendment."

Dellinger is a member of O’Melveny’s Appellate Practice and resides in the Firm’s Washington, DC office. He heads the Harvard/O’Melveny Supreme Court and Appellate Practice Clinic, and is a Visiting Professor of Law at Harvard University. He is on leave from his professorship at Duke Law School.
