O’Melveny’s Desai Authors Article in The Economic Times on Doing Business in India

February 18, 2014

O’Melveny & Myers associate Ronak Desai recently authored an article on the current dangers foreign companies may face while doing business in India for The Economic Times. In the February 18, 2014, article, titled “Doing Business in India’s Corruption-Rich Environment Remains a Perilous Endeavour,” Desai points out that India’s endemic corruption not only poses dangers to foreign companies seeking defense contracts with New Delhi but also poses challenges and risks to foreign companies operating within India. India’s corruption epidemic also extends beyond its defense sector, according to the article.

“Millions of dollars…are being spent on establishing internal anti-corruption mechanisms and controls designed to ensure compliance with the FCPA in the country's high-risk environment,” Desai writes. “Signs are emerging, however, that India's own regulatory landscape is evolving in an effort to more effectively battle corruption.”

Desai is a member of O’Melveny’s Litigation Department, and resides in the Firm’s Washington, DC office.
