O’Melveny’s Donilon Discusses President Obama’s Trip to Vietnam on Charlie Rose

May 23, 2016

O’Melveny partner and firm vice-chair Tom Donilon, who served as national security advisor to President Obama from 2010 to 2013, appeared on the May 23, 2016 episode of “Charlie Rose” to discuss President Obama’s recent trip to Vietnam and how it fits into his foreign policy. Donilon called the trip and the strengthening of relations with Vietnam a “key strategic step” by the United States, reflecting its diplomatic, military and security, and economic interests in Asia. While Vietnam and the US have enjoyed an increasingly close relationship over the last 25 years, Donilon noted, “this takes it to, as the president said, a new level and really points it to a fully engaged and normalized relationship.”
